In-Game Updates: Hart at Santa Barbara CIF Basketball

CIF-Game-UpdatesPRE-GAME INTRO: Santa Barbara High (27-4) and Hart (20-9) meet tonight in Santa Barbara for a CIF Division 2A quarterfinal. The seeds have held so far as the Dons are No. 2 and the Indians are No. 7.

Santa Barbara is on an 11-game winning streak and has been especially tough at home all season long, losing just one game, a 51-50 loss to Thousand Oaks.

The winner will advance to Tuesday’s semifinals against the winner of Colony (21-9) and Redlands East Valley (23-6). (Redlands won 56-43 and will host SB on Tuesday.)

FOURTH QUARTER

Game Over – Santa Barbara wins the CIF 2A quarterfinal over Hart 62-51. Check back later for post-game report and video highlights. Ben Clay led Santa Barbara with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Wagonhurst scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter. Myles Franklin finished with a game-high 22 points for Hart. [POST-GAME REPORT & VIDEO]

0:45 – The Dons are officially in clock-killing mode. Santa Barbara is running the clock down on each possession and now Hart is starting to foul. But a putback by Ben Clay on a missed free throw gives Santa Barbara a fairly comfortable 60-51 lead.

1:47 – Santa Barbara’s three-point shooters have been on target during the second half. Led my Max Henderson and Chris Wagonhurst, the Dons haven’t allowed Hart to get closer than three in the period. SB leads 57-49.

3:45 – Under four minutes now, Santa Barbara gets a steal and calls a timeout with possession and a 53-47 lead. Hart’s Chad Donahue just knocked down two clutch free throws but the Dons answered with a 3-pointer by Chris Wagonhurst. Max Henderson has five points in the quarter for SB.

5:02 – Both teams have come out firing in the fourth quarter. Santa Barbara has maintained its advantage and leads 48-43.

THIRD QUARTER

0:00 – The Dons have the last play of the period and senior Chris Wagonhurst electrifies the home crowd with a buzzer-beating putback off a missed three-pointer. Santa Barbara takes a 41-34 lead into the final eight minutes.

0:44 – A breakneck pace in third quarter hasn’t had a single timeout. With Nick Busch on the free-throw line, Santa Barbara holds a 37-32 lead

SECOND QUARTER

Halftime – Ben Clay gives Santa Barbara its first lead at 25-23 with an 18-foot jumper. Clay has had a terrific first half, leading the Dons in scoring with 14 points and a handful of rebounds. Hart’s biggest lead was 23-16 but the Indians allowed the Dons to close out the half on a 9-0 run. Franklin remains the game’s leading scorer with 15 points. After scoring 19 points in the first quarter riding Franklin’s hot hand, Hart went cold in the second quarter and added just four points to their total.

1:28 – With the score knotted up at 23-23, Hart’s Cameron Fuller hit the floor after a hard fall and appeared to get a tooth knocked out or at least get his face banged against the floor pretty hard. After a couple minutes on the ground with athletic trainers all around, Fuller is being attended to on the bench.

2:19 – A mini five-point run brings Santa Barbara to within 23-21. Max Henderson drained a 3-pointer from the corner just in front of the Hart bench. Ben Clay then knocked down another bucket. Franklin leads all scorers with 15 points.

5:50 – Both teams have seemed to make adjustments here in the second quarter. The Dons are giving Franklin extra defensive attention while Hart is doing a better job of keeping Santa Barbara off the offensive glass. Hart leads 20-14.

FIRST QUARTER

0:00 – Hart’s Myles Franklin led all scorers with 12 points. The guard scored most of his points in the paint, leading the Indians to a 19-14 lead. Ben Clay led Santa Barbara with six points.

3:07 – The first timeout of the game comes with Hart holding a 12-6 lead. Myles Franklin will be shooting a free-throw with a chance to complete a 3-point play. Franklin has five points already.

4:47 – Hart gets off to the hot start, taking an 8-2 lead to begin the game. Santa Barbara’s leading scorer, Bolden Brace hits a mid-range jumper to make it 8-4.
