Villanova edged Cate’s girls basketball team on Tuesday 47-44 behind Elissa Root’s 32 points.
The Wildcats, in second place in the Frontier League behind Carpinteria, topped the Rams for the second time this season by a slim three-point margin.
Elan Halpern and Mikaela Li led Cate with 12 points each. Brittany Newsome added nine.
Cate’s final regular-season game is on Thursday at Carpinteria.
