5 boys teams kick off CIF soccer playoffs at home

Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High will host first-round games in the CIF Division 1 boys soccer playoffs on Friday.

The playoff brackets were released Monday afternoon.

The Chargers, (11-6-5) who won their first Channel League championship since 1983, take on Los Alamitos (12-9-3), the No. 3 team from the Sunset League. The Dons (Channel N. 2, 14-4-4) face Redondo Union (13-9-4), the Bay League’s No. 3 representative.

In Division 4, Tri-Valley League co-champions Carpinteria and Cate both received home games for the first round. Cate (TVL No. 1, 11-2-2) faces Saugus (Foothill League No. 2, 15-5-3), while Carpinteria (TVL No. 2, 11-3-2) takes on Centennial of Compton (Pioneer No. 2, 12-3-1).

Laguna Blanca (11-1-3), the Condor League co-champion, has a first-round home match against St. Paul (Santa Fe No. 2, 10-10-1) in Division 7.

The second round is Wednesday, Feb.25

GIRLS

Four local teams will open the playoffs on Thursday.

In Division 3, Dos Pueblos and San Marcos are both on the road against teams from the Pac 8. The Chargers (Channel No. 2, 11-6-3) travel to Righetti (Pac 8 No. 2, 15-2-2) while the Royals (Channel No. 3, 6-8-2) face undefeated Pac 8 champion Arroyo Grande (20-0-3).

Carpinteria and Laguna Blanca are in the Division 7 playoffs and face wild card-round winners on Thursday at home. The Warriors (Frontier No. 2, 14-7-1) play either Santiago Garden Grove or California Academy of Math and Science. The Condor League-champion Owls meet Los Amigos (11-3-3) or Rubidoux (9-10-4).

The second round of the girls soccer playoffs is Tuesday, Feb. 24.
