After stellar performances last Saturday in both the 100 breaststroke (55.97) and 200 breaststroke (2:03.00) Andy Castilleja has been named the MPSF Athlete of the Week for a second time this season.

As UCSB’s signature breaststroker, Castilleja has won the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in four out of the five duel meets so far this season. In addition to winning his two main events, he is a force to be reckoned with on relays. He split a 25.88 in the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley against the Air Force Academy.

Castilleja has his sights set on the post-season as well, with NCAA “B” cuts in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. In both events he is ranked third within the entire MPSF league.

Catch Castilleja and other outstanding Gaucho swimmers in the meets coming up in the near future. The UCSB men will host University of the Pacific on Jan. 23, while the Gaucho women travel to UNLV on Jan. 17.
