Jessie Jimenez of Dos Pueblos and Jenny Alaniz of Carpinteria, the offensive spark plugs for their respective soccer teams in league victories last week, have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week.

Jimenez led the Channel League-leading Chargers to wins over San Marcos and Buena. He provided all the goal scoring in a 3-0 win over the Royals and had a goal and two assists in a 4-0 victory against the Bulldogs.

Alaniz, a freshman, scored twice in a 6-1 decision over Santa Clara and accounted for all the goals in a 2-0 triumph over Ventura Foothill Tech in Frontier League action.

Honorable mention honors went to Hallie Magee (Dos Pueblos girls basketball),
Malia Morales (Dos Pueblos girls soccer), Paige Hauschild (San Marcos water polo), Krissy Karr (Westmont basketball), John Green (UCSB basketball) and Peter Durak (San Marcos basketball).

There was no Round Table press luncheon last Monday because of the Martin Luther King holiday, but Athletes of the Week were selected by the local sports media. They were recognized at Monday’s press luncheon.

Dos Pueblos wrestler Gama Perez and San Marcos water polo player Paige Hauschild were the winners.

Perez battle back from a 4-0 deficit in the final period of his 120-pound bout against Ventura, forced overtime and scored a two-point takedown to win 6-4. The victory sparked the Chargers to their first dual meet over the Cougars in eight years.

Hauschild scored four goals and played solid defense in a 10-6 win over Dos Pueblos, giving the Royals seventh place in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions water polo tournament, their best finish in program history. Hauschild earned all-tournament team honors.
