SB Coast Boys 14s take gold at junior national qualifier

The  Santa Barbara Coast Volleyball Club under-14 boys qualified for the Junior Nationals.

Santa Barbara Coast Volleyball Club defeated a host of perennial powerhouse clubs to win the three-day Southern California Volleyball Association Junior National Qualifying Tournament in Anaheim.

After upsetting second seed SCVC, the local spikers advanced to the gold bracket where they avenged their only loss of the tournament, beating Santa Monica in the semifinals of the 56-team field.

In the finals, Coast met perennial powerhouse and top-seeded Balboa Bay. After losing the first game 23-25, Coast fought to win game 2, 25-22. A fast 5-0 start in game 3 proved helpful as Coast went on to win 15-8 to take home the gold.

With the win, Santa Barbara earned a bid to the Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio In July.

Coast was led by the powerful offense of William Rottman (13) and the stellar defense of Matt Suh (12) and Tanner Stevens at setter (14).

Coached by former UCSB star David Rottman, the team consists of Kyle Aitcheson, Arman Banan, Brendan Hann, Owen Jones, Charles MacNeil, Joakim Moe, Will Rottman, Samuel Stegall, Tanner Stevens, Toby Still, Brennan Ware and Matthew Suh.
