UC Santa Barbara men’s volleyball is hosting the 51st annual UCSB Asics Invitational, held on Jan. 9 and 10 at Rob Gym and the Thunderdome.
Joining the Gauchos in this year’s iteration of the tournament are conference-mates Long Beach State, CSUN, and UCLA. Non-conference participants include Limestone, St. Francis, Princeton, and IPFW.
In the preseason AVCA NCAA rankings, UCLA begins the season rated No. 5 in the country while Northridge is No. 13.
The Gauchos, ranked No. 4 in the NCAA, opened their season with a three-set sweep against St. Francis on Thursday. Though the match will count towards both teams’ overall records, it is not a part of the UCSB Asics Invitational.
In last year’s tournament, UCSB took third place following a convincing sweep of UC San Diego, while Long Beach State was crowned champion with a four-set win over Harvard.
