Kristina Garcia had a big day on offense for the Santa Barbara High girls water polo team, but it wasn’t enough as the Dons were edged by Mater Dei, 13-11, in a non-league match on Thursday in Santa Ana.
Garcia scored seven goals and had two assists to lead the Dons.
Jessie Brummett played a strong game with three goals and two assists. Jessee Ransone added a goal and had three assists.
Goalie Joie Ruiz made 10 saves in her varsity debut.
The Dons stay in Orange County for the remainder of the weekend, playing in the Newport Holiday Cup. They open the tournament Friday against Rosary at Corona del Mar.
