Petra Huebner made a huge save as time expired to preserve a 10-9 Dos Pueblos victory over The Bishops School of La Jolla in the first game of a girls water polo doubleheader on Saturday at the Elings Aquatic Center.
The Chargers beat Mater Dei, 10-7 in the second game.
Huebner blocked a four-meter shot out of bounds at the final whistle to save DP. She finished the game with 11 saves. Grace Heck scored the game-winning goal for the Chargers.
Freshman Ryann Neushul had three goals and Jordan Williams added two to lead the offense.
Against Mater Dei, Neushul and Toni Shackelford each scored three goals, Whitney Steidl had five assists and Huebner made 11 saves.
These were DP’s first games in two weeks.
“We had to knock the rust off in The Bishops game,” DP coach Chris Parrish said. “We made a few bad decisions, especially on defense.”
But Parrish was pleased to see the Chargers pull out wins against quality opponents. DP improves to 7-1.
“It was good to have them back in pool and playing again,” he said.
