GSoc: Warriors can’t get a break, fall to Grace Brethren

Carpinteria’s Kelsie Bryant had two goals nullified by the referee in the last 10 minutes, and the Warriors suffered a 2-1 loss against Frontier League favorite Grace Brethren in a girls soccer match on Saturday.

“To go from getting three points or even one point to getting no points hurts,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said. “It was just an unfortunate two incidents that we have to deal with. We have to move on.”

Jessica Meza gave Carpinteria a 1-0 lead early in the first half, finishing a cross from Alejandra Alvarez.

Grace Brethren tied the scored on a header late in the first half. It took the lead on a free kick from 25 yards in the 60th minute.

The Warriors stepped up their play after the goal and mounted some strong attacks.

“We started getting some better chances and kept the Lancers on their heels,” said Bryant.

The Warriors thought they scored a couple of goals, but each one was waved off the referee.

“I thought our keeper, Laura Valdez, played outstanding,” Bryant said. “She made quite a few spectacular saves in the tough conditions. Each of the players played well for spurts but we just did not sustain it enough or have enough players playing well at the same time to do anymore damage.”

Carpinteria is now 3-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the Frontier League.
