GSoc: Morales creates, Chargers shut out Ventura

With an impressive performance on both sides of the ball, the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team dominated Ventura 3-0 in a Channel League matchup on Thursday.

The Chargers got on the board early when a long throw by Malia Morales connected with a sprinting Weslea Greyson at the back post to spring a 1-0 lead in only the third minute.

The second goal came in the 60th minute when Morales once again launched a throw into the middle of the box where Anya Schmitz was able to convert.

Morales assisted every goal scored on the day, the third of which was pounded in by Ady Willett in 71st minute. The victory marks the second shut out for Chargers goalkeeper Paige Mathison.

A stellar Dos Pueblos defense held the Cougars to only a single shot attempt on the day.

“I don’t think the girls played to their potential tonight but they got the job done,” said Dos Pueblos coach Hugh Hollis. “They are working hard for each other and morale is good on and off the field.”

The Chargers, undefeated in Channel League, are set to host non-league opponent Moorpark on Tuesday where they will hope to keep their momentum alive.
