Cate’s girls water polo team opened the season with a 12-10 win over visiting Hueneme on Tuesday.
The Rams were led by a solid performance from senior Olivia Cannellís who scored six goals. Ally Satterfield and Lydia Stevens each scored two goals apiece.
With the score knotted at 3-all, the Vikings went on a three-goal run to put the Rams in a hole.
Cannellís’ speed and shooting got the team back to 6-5 at half. Some early foul trouble hurt senior co-captain Anna Satterfield and her sister Ally, who both eventually fouled out.
Stevens had a few nice goals from 6-on-5s to allow Cate to take the lead once again. Senior Isabella Wang and sophomore Halie Straathof each scored their first varsity goals to keep the Rams on top.
The Rams travel to face Moorpark on Thursday.
