Santa Barbara High’s Amber Melgoza broke the Santa Barbara High scoring record on Saturday with 47 points.

 

Amber Melgoza set the Santa Barbara High girls basketball single-game scoring record, pouring in 47 points Saturday in a 77-52 win over Sierra-Tollhouse in an opening round game of the Harold Oliveira Classic at Righetti High.

Melgoza broke the previous mark of 45 points, set by All-American Holly Ford in the 1980s and equaled by Melgoza two weeks ago at the Gold Coast Tournament. The junior, who’s  had three 40-point games this month,  shot 46 percent, making 18 of 39 shots. She scored 26 of her points in the first half. She also had 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals

It wasn’t all Melgoza.  Jada Howard had a productive game with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and five steals. Kimberly Gebhardt scored seven points, hauled in 10 boards, dished out four assists and had three steals. Liliana Ponce had six points, three rebounds, two assists and five steals.

The Dons’ three-quarter court press forced Sierra into several turnovers.

Santa Barbara (10-3) will play Lompoc in the semifinals on Monday. It will be the third meeting between the schools.
