XC: Ventura sweeps league titles; Aldapa wins race for Royals

Ventura’s Daniel Mountcastle and San Marcos’ Adilene Aldapa won their first Channel League race of the season on Thursday at the final league meet at Camino Real Park.

When the dust had settled and the results from the three league meets accounted for, Ventura’s boys and girls teams claimed the league titles. San Marcos’ girls team was runner-up, while Dos Pueblos’ teams were both third. All will travel to Mt. SAC for CIF Prelims next weekend.

Aldapa edged teammate Erica Schroeder, who placed 2nd for the second league race in a row after winning the opener in September. Aldapa posted a time of 18 minutes and two seconds, six seconds in front of Schroeder.

Dos Pueblos’ Chris Wasjutin was nearly two minutes faster than the last league meet and nearly won the race, settling for second place in the boys race with a time of 15:37. Mountcastle, who didn’t run in the last league race on October 8, was timed at 15:36.

Christina Rice was the fastest performer for DP’s girls team for the second consecutive race. The sophomore’s time of 18:21 was slightly ahead of senior Elaine McClure in 4th.

Santa Barbara High sophomore Ruth Hunter came in fifth. Despite not having a placer in the top-five, Ventura still won the team competition with six runners in the top-15.

Wasjutin helped lead the Chargers to 51 points. DP’s next finisher was Ian Wasjutin in 9th.

Ventura dominated the boys race with 19 points. The Ventura girls won with 48 points.

Will Walter (16:34) was Santa Barbara High’s fastest runner in each league meet.
