SBCC reaped the rewards from a spectacular inaugural women’s water polo season on Friday by sweeping the top awards in the Western State Conference.
Rocio Fesembeck was named Most Valuable Player and Chuckie Roth got the Coach of the Year award for the Vaqueros (17-13), who captured the WSC title with an 8-1 record and finished fifth in the Southern Cal Regional.
The Vaqueros were second in the WSC regular season, then went 3-0 and won the conference tournament with a 9-5 victory over L.A. Valley.
Fesembeck, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, led the conference with 111 goals in 30 matches for a 3.7 average. She also had 25 assists and 52 steals.
Maddie Brooks was 10th in the WSC with 47 goals and she earned first-team honors, along with Autumn Lovett and Kaitlyn Wentz Fitzgerald. Lovett had 24 goals and led the conference with 44 assists while Wentz Fitzgerald had 25 goals.
Goalie Alex Brown and Paula Tkach made second-team All-WSC and Abdiel “AJ” Gravatt was honorable mention.
