Gaucho tennis receives two NLIs

The UCSB men’s tennis program has announced the signing of two talented American players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period this week.

The Gauchos have signed New York City native Oliver Sec and Riley Scott of Monterey, California to join the team for the 2015-2016 season.

Oliver Sec, currently a senior at The Beacon School in New York City, ranks No. 5 in the Eastern sectional and was ranked as high as No. 43 nationally, according to tennisrecruiting.net. In juniors play, Sec is a three-time singles champion and two-time doubles champion in his section. Sec also reached the final of the 18 and under Eastern Section Championship last year and made it to the fourth round of the 2013 Winter Nationals. Sec serves as the captain of his high school tennis team and has helped his team win three state championships.

“Oliver really impressed me with his play at Winter Nationals last December and we’re delighted to have him in our program. He has a beautiful serve and possesses loads of power off the ground. His upside is huge,” said Head Coach Marty Davis of his new recruit.

The Gauchos have also signed Riley Scott, a senior at Robert Lewis Stevenson High School in Pebble Beach, California. Scott is ranked No. 98 in national 18s and No. 11 in Northern California. In juniors play, Scott reached the semifinals at the Nor Cal 18 and under sectional championships earlier this year.

“Predictably, Riley, whose parents are both top coaches, has great technique and a solid foundation from which to grow his game. We think his game will blossom when given the opportunity to practice with quality players here at UCSB on a daily basis,” said Marty Davis.

The Gauchos have concluded their fall tournament schedule and will begin the dual match portion of their season on January 18 against TCU.
