CIF Volleyball: Royals, Owls, Rams open at home; Dons face tough road

Six local girls volleyball teams learned their draws for the CIF playoff on Friday.

In the 1A Division, San Marcos (21-6) got a first-round  home game against Cajon on Tuesday while Santa Barbara (21-9) travels to Anaheim to play Canyon.

Condor League champion Laguna Blanca (18-5) will be home to St. Monica Catholic, and runner-up Providence (14-5) will play at St. Bonaventure in the first round of the 4AA Division.

In the 4A Division, undefeated Cate received the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye on Tuesday. The Rams (13-0) will host either Bassett or Azusa in a second-round match on Thursday. Carpinteria (17-12), runner-up to Cate in the Frontier League, opens the playoffs with a home match against St. Pius X-St.Matthias on Tuesday.

The competitive Channel League, which ended in a three-way tie for first with San Marcos, Ventura and Santa Barbara, had four teams make the playoffs. Buena, which finished last in the league but went  18-14 overall,  received an at-large berth.

San Marcos will play its playoff opener at 5 p.m. at the Thunderhut. Cajon (13-11) is an at-large team out of the Sun Belt League.

The draw wasn’t kind to Santa Barbara. If the Dons win at Canyon (Coastview League No. 2) on Tuesday, they would have to travel again and  play at top-seeded Aliso Niguel, which received a first-round bye.

Cate is one of three undefeated teams in all divisions. The others are Quartz Hill (22-0) in 3AA and West Shores (23-0) in the 5A Division.
