BBK: Dons pull away from SLO in 2nd half of opener

Santa Barbara High overcame a slow start and beat San Luis Obispo, 52-41, in a boys basketball season opener on Tuesday night in San Luis Obispo.

Junior Bolden Brace scored 17 points and senior Chris Wagonhurst tallied 16 to pace the Dons. Wagonhurst scored nine of his points in the third quarter. Ben Clay added 10 points. Chase Braun had 14 points for the Tigers.

Santa Barbara assistant coach Joseph Bregante praised the defense and rebounding of Matt Gilligan. The Dons held the Tigers to 16 points in the second half.

“It was a tough road win against a good team and we are happy with the victory,” said Bregante.

The Dons play their home opener on Saturday against Pioneer Valley.
