Sierra Canyon’s running game too much for DP

Dos Pueblos intercepted Sierra Canyon’s quarterback four times, but the Chargers couldn’t slow down the Trailblazers’ potent running game and fell 40-3 in a non-league football game Thursday at Granada Hills High.

Sierra Canyon running back Kaiser Butler rushed for three touchdowns in the first half as it built a 21-3 lead. DP scored on a 36-yard field goal by Nathan Garcia.

The Chargers, who were playing their fourth undefeated and CIF-ranked opponent, had three drives get inside the Sierra Canyon 20-yard line but they only scored on the field goal.

The defense made things tough for Sierra Canyon quarterback Nico Harris. Rosso Royce, Josh Flora, Daniel Hernandez and Angel Davison each picked off a Harris pass.

Dos Pueblos (1-4) opens Channel League play at home next Friday against Buena, the team that knocked it out of a playoff berth last season.
