Providence is pleased to announce Sherry Gutsch as the new varsity girls basketball coach. Coach Gutsch is not new to the Patriots athletics program. Last spring she was assistant varsity track and field coach and she currently coaches the middle school girls volleyball team.

A school and club basketball team player throughout her middle and high school years, Sherry Gutsch loves the sport. While earning a bachelors degree in physical education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Gutsch began her coaching career at Omro High School. She coached the freshman team and was assistant varsity coach for two years. Jim Jaeger, varsity coach at Omro during that time, speaks very highly of Coach Gutsch: “I witnessed Sherry evolve from an incredibly enthusiastic college student to a colleague whom I entrusted with both my players and my game plans. Sherry was an integral part of our success…She is a hardworking young lady with strong moral values.”

Providence junior Katie Hodson, a CIF high jump qualifier under Gutsch’s tutelage, says: “She is extremely encouraging and motivating; under her guidance I pushed myself further than I had thought I could achieve.”

“Coach Gutsch is really eager to start working with the girls,” says Providence athletic director Keith Luberto. “We have a young team, and her experience in Wisconsin will go a long way in building our program to make another run at CIF.”

The Providence girls team won the Division 6 state girls championship in 2013.

Coach Gutsch is well qualified to train and condition Providence athletes. She is certified by the Positive Coaching Alliance, has been a trainer at Prevail Conditioning, and has coached gymnastics.

Expressing how much she looks forward to coaching the Patriots girls basketball players, Gutsch says: “I am truly excited to see God work in the lives of the girls basketball team this season. Being unified in Christ is one of the biggest blessings we can have and it will be a true strength throughout the season.”
