MBK: UCSB’s Williams is preseason Mid-Major All-American

UC Santa Barbara center Alan Williams has been chosen Preseason First Team Mid-Major All-American by CollegeSportsMadness.com, it was announced.

Williams, an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American and Big West Player of the Year in 2013-14, is returning for his senior season in 2014-15. As a junior, he led the Big West in scoring at 21.3 points per game and he paced all of NCAA Division I in rebouding at 11.5 per game. He tied the conference reccord by earning Player of the Week honors six times.

In addition to his Mid-Major All-American recognition, CollegeSportsMadness.com selected Williams the Big West Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-Big West. The other Williams in the program, head coach Bob Williams, was chosen the Big West’s Preseason Coach of the Year.

Alan Williams was joined on the preseason all-league teams by point guard Zalmico Harmon and guard Michael Bryson, who were each named to the third team.
