Rocio Fesembeck poured in 15 goals on Saturday, leading the SBCC women’s water polo squad to a pair of victories on the final day of the Ventura Tournament. The former Santa Barbara High standout had a season-high eight goals in a 15-7 win over El Camino and racked up seven goals and five assists in a 19-15 triumph over the Ventura All-Stars.
Fesembeck scored 26 goals in four games as the Vaqueros (9-10) won their last three to go 3-1 in the two-day tourney.
Maddie Brooks had three goals in each game and AJ Gravatt notched a season-best five goals in the comeback win over the Stars. The Vaqueros fell behind 5-1 in the opening quarter before rallying to take a 15-14 lead after three quarters. The 19 goals were the most ever for SBCC’s first-year team.
Autumn Lovett had three assists, a steal and seven saves in goal in the win over El Camino.
“We came out very energetic vs. El Camino and executed on some key 6-on-5s,” noted coach Chuckie Roth. “In the last game against the All-Stars, we were down four early and ended up winning by four. The girls’ shooting came alive and I’m really proud of our team’s development.”
SBCC returns to WSC play on Wednesday when it hosts L.A. Pierce in a 5 p.m. game at San Marcos High. The game will be live-streamed on the Vaquero Broadcasting Network. Check the website (www.sbccvaqueros.com) for information and look in the Fan Zone.
