Carpinteria hit the post on a game-tying attempt in the final seconds and suffered a 12-11 loss against Cate on Wednesday in a Frontier League boys water polo game at the Carpinteria pool.
After the shot bounced off the post, Cate grabbed the rebound and held on to the ball as time ran out.
Sophmore Malek Mehi and freshman Jordan Perez each scored three goals for Carpinteria. Freshmen Wyatt Stevenson, senior Chris Fedderson and sophomore Forrest Van Stein each had two goals.
“Freshmen goalie Mac Clayton had a huge seven huge blocks and one extra huge block to keep it a one-goal game,” Carpinteria coach Matt Organista said. “Unfortunately it was not enough to pull out at win.”
Zack Allen scored four goals, Alex Brown added three and Julian Maes and Will Hogue tallied two apiece for Cate.
