SBCC put an exclamation mark on the first women’s water polo victory in school history on Friday by notching its first shutout in a 10-0 triumph over Santa Monica at the Central Coast Invitational, hosted by Cuesta.
“I made a promise last week [that the Vaqs would get their first win this weekend] and our team delivered,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “AJ Gravatt played great on offense and defense, shutting down their big 2-meter girl.”
Gravatt scored five goals and Rocio Fesembeck had four as the Vaqueros (1-5) built a 10-0 halftime lead. Autumn Lovett played goalie for the first three quarters and Fesembeck moved into the cage in the fourth period, making five stops to preserve the shutout.
Maddie Brooks had two assists and Jessica Leathers made two steals.
In the morning game, Diablo Valley downed the Vaqueros 14-2 with Brooks and Kaitlyn Wentz Fitzgerald scoring the goals.
SBCC will take on Merced on Saturday at 9:35 a.m. and Cuesta at 3 p.m.
