Maddie Brooks had a season-high five goals and three assists on Saturday afternoon as SBCC capped a 2-2 performance in the 14-team Mt. SAC Mountie Invitational with a 10-3 win over Citrus.
On Saturday morning, the Vaqueros (6-8) fell to Long Beach City (7-2) by a 12-4 count. Rocio Fesembeck scored three goals against Long Beach and four vs. Citrus. She also played goalie in the first match, recording two saves.
“The Long Beach loss was disappointing but paved the way to talk about team culture and team expectations,” said Chuckie Roth, the coach of SBCC’s first-year program. “And I think that loss had to occur to create motivation for future success.”
The Vaqueros jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead against Citrus and Autumn Lovett had seven saves in the match. Lindsey Keen made her Vaquero debut on Saturday and played goalie in both games.
“Our win over Citrus was all about Paula Tkach’s 2-meter defense and Elise Hazel on offense,” Roth said. “Although Elise had no goals, her presence contributed to at least four of our goals. Her energy, intensity and humility served as inspiration for our entire team.”
SBCC will put its 2-0 WSC record on the line Wednesday when it travels to San Luis Obispo to take on Cuesta at 3:30 p.m.
