LAX: Massive youth lacrosse tournament coming to SB

The inaugural Santa Barbara Showdown lacrosse tournament is October 17 – 19, 2014 at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria.

The Showdown will feature 88 youth lacrosse teams in 7 divisions of players ages 8 through 18. The 88 boys and girls lacrosse teams will compete for championships in U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U18 & U19 divisions. Games will be played on sixteen fields.

The Showdown opens with a 3:00pm Friday afternoon exhibition game, a Chumash blessing of the field and a second exhibition game. Regular tournament play starts on Saturday morning and continues on Sunday with 11 championship games. The Akwesasne Attack are the highlight club in the event. The Akwesasne Attack are a lacrosse club from upstate New York made up of girls in the Akwesasne Tribe in the Iroquois Nation. Lacrosse started as The Little Brother of War game and is played throughout the Iroquois Nation.

More than 3,500 athletes and family members will arrive in the general Santa Barbara area starting Thursday the week of the event. The Showdown is a $710,000 local economic impact event.
