GTen: Warriors take charge from the start

A good warmup set the tone for the Carpinteria girls tennis team on Thursday.

The Warriors came out focused and never let up in beating Oxnard 16-2 in a non-league match.

“I was happy with how we played today, very relaxed yet focused,” Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said. “We had a better warmup and therefore had a better first round than the previous day. That helped set the tone and all of the girls were feeding off of each others success.”

In doubles, Makenna Pike-Elie Morgan and Merissa Souza-Lesly Zapata each went 3-0 in sets.

Madison Cleek dropped only one game in sweeping in singles, and Kelsie Bryant also won all three of her sets.

Carpinteria (5-2-1) opens Tri-Valley League play next week.
