The Santa Barbara High junior varsity football team improved to 3-0 with a 40-0 win over Channel Islands on Friday at Channel Islands.

While the Raiders had impressive players and impressive size, the overall level of athleticism of the Dons seemed to win out by the end.

“They played hard for four quarters and they continue to play well together as a bunch,” said Santa Barbara coach Udi Loza, mentioning one of his personal highlights included quarterback Robert Tovar’s touchdown pass —— with great pass protection by the offensive line — to receiver Matt Cordero.

Antonio Montalvo was a standout with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and Tovar continues to make great connections with receiver Donovan Zavaleta. Add to this a team that has both a powerful defense and skilled offense, and players who all seem to be very good at reading each other’s moves.

This week the Dons will have another away game and go up against Rio Mesa, Friday at 4 p.m.
