Malibu’s top-ranked boys water polo team brought down Santa Barbara High, 12-8, on Tuesday in a non-league match.
The Sharks, rated No. 1 in Division 6, took a 7-1 lead on the Division-2 Dons in the first half.
Malibu converted 4-of-5 man-up situations on offense and stopped 6-of-7 of Santa Barbara’s on defense.
Dons coach Mark Walsh blamed turnovers and ineffective shot-taking for the loss but highlighted the quality play of goalie Justyn Barrios who recorded 1o saves, four steals and three assists.
Santa Barbara (9-4) plays next at the South Coast Tournament on Thursday.
