Top-ranked Righetti jumped on San Marcos for five goals in the first period and beat the Royals 16-8 in a non-league boys water polo match on Thursday.
The Warriors shut down San Marcos’ offense, limiting to two goals in the first half.
“Righetti is the No. 1-ranked team in Division 4 and are very good and very physical,” San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton said. “Unfortunately for us, it was a frustrating and disappointing game today as we never were able to get in a rhythm offensively or defensively. There were definitely some bright spots and good sequences, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Jesse Morrison scored four goals to lead the Royals (9-4). They play another No. 1 team on Saturday, traveling to Claremont, the top team in Division 5.
