Gowdy shows his stuff at USA Baseball camp

Santa Barbara's Kevin Gowdy made two appearances at the USA National Development camp in Cary, N.C.

Santa Barbara’s Kevin Gowdy made two appearances at the USA National Development Program U17 camp in Cary, N.C.

Kevin Gowdy of Santa Barbara High participated in the USA Baseball 17-Under National Team Development Program in Cary, N.C., last week.

Gowdy, who is entering his junior year, pitched in two games for the Stripes team during the four-day trials. The right-hander pitched in relief in an intrasquad game against the Stars team and against the Chinese Taipei 18U National Team.

Gowdy and his fellow teammates in North Carolina will participate in future showcases across the country in 2015. Team USA will determine its final rosters in the late spring of 2015.

Gowdy has made a verbal commitment to UCLA, according to Tom Myers, director of the Santa Barbara Grizzlies Baseball Group.

Gowdy started for the Dons as a sophomore. He developed his skills locally with Santa Barbara Pony, Goleta Valley South Little League, the Santa Barbara Riptide and the Grizzlies Baseball Group.
