Barbara Nwaba’s 6,205-point performance over the weekend at the Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany bested the field in the United States vs. Germany multi-event competition.

Nwaba topped fellow Americans Sam Spencer (5,876) and Erica Bougard (5,873).

American Wesley Bray won the men’s decathlon competition with a score of 7,862 points over Germany’s Mathias Brugger (7,829).

Nwaba, the runner-up at this year’s USA Track & Field Championships in the heptathlon, is a former UCSB track & field team member who currently trains with Santa Barbara Track Club.

Nwaba’s point total in Germany was both a personal best and a Thorpe Cup record.

Another Santa Barbara Track Club athlete, Tom FitzSimons, suffered a broken foot while warming up for the pole vault and could not finish the meet.
