The Goleta Thunder 12-Under softball team won the ASA national qualifying tournament in Fresno.

The Goleta Valley Thunder 12-Under Gold girls softball team survived a nail-bitting semifinal game and romped in the championship at the Central California American Softball Association “B” National Qualifying Tournament in Fresno.

In the semifinals, the Thunder battled through two extra international tiebreaker innings to beat Santa Maria 3-2. Valerie Carroll and Alison Speshyock combined to pitch eight scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts, while Claire Early and Mason Boyle drove in three runs in the 9th inning.

Goleta Valley routed Orcutt Mayhem 17-3 in the championship game. Megan Cunnison, Julia Gregson, Brianna Castro, and Sophia Carrasco contributed to solid hitting throughout the lineup. Third baseman Emily Trujillo sparked the defense with some standout plays.

Earlier in the tournament, the Thunder beat the Tulare Thrill behind the hitting of Savannah Tait, Sinai Miranda and Josy Uyesaka.
