TRK: Six Royals, relay team qualify for CIF finals

San Marcos freshman Erica Schroeder will be the No. 1 overall seed in the 800 meters at next week’s Southern Section D3 Finals.

San Marcos’ head coach Marilyn Hantgin called it a “great day” as six individuals and a relay team advanced on Saturday for the Royals at the CIF Southern Section D3 Prelims at Estancia High School.

Erica Schroeder might be just a freshman but she runs like the wind and claimed the No. 1 overall seed in the 800 meters in a personal-best time of 2 minutes and 15.30 seconds.

Adilene Aldapa won her heat in the 1600 to earn the second seed at next week’s finals. Aldapa’s time was 5:04.45

COMPLETE D3 PRELIMS RESULTS

The girls 4×400 relay team won its heat in a time of 4:01.71. The team includes Jill Fisher, Schroeder, Delaney Werner and Emily Allen.

Courtney Clyde also qualified for the girls team in the long jump. Clyde reached 16′ 11.5″ on the second of three jumps.

Tyson Miller, Matt Turk and Ryan Sorensen advanced from the boys team. Miller came through with his best time of the year (50.35) in the 400 meters to finish 9th. Turk cleared 13 feet in the pole vault in order to extend his season. Sorenson placed ninth overall in the 3200 to claim the final qualification.

Next week’s CIF-ss Finals are at Cerritos College on Saturday.
