San Marcos girls finish 5th in prep sand volleyball league

The San Marcos girls sand volleyball team won the Riviera Division title and advanced to the quarterfinals of the AAU Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League.

The Royals were eliminated by Mater Dei in the playoffs last week in Santa Monica. The finished tied for fifth overall out of 72 teams.

Mira Costa won the IBVL team title, beating Mater Dei in the semifinals and Valencia in the championship match.

San Marcos’ top doubles teams of Anika Wilson/Cassidy Drury Pullen and Clare Holehouse/Isabel Bassi earned berths in the pairs championships on Saturday (May 17) at Dockweiler State Beach.

The San Marcos sand team is comprised of Wilson, Drury Pullen, Bassi, Holehouse, Alex Seyle and Andie O’Donnell. They are coached by Erica Menzel-Downing and Steve Lough, with assistance from retired UCSB coach Kathy Gregory.
