Dos Pueblos came up short against Simi Valley in its final regular season match, falling in five sets, 25-21, 19-25, 18-25, 25-13, 15-7

“Simi Valley has proven to be a tough place for us to play as this is the second time in three seasons that we have lost there in five,” said DP coach Ehren Hug.

The Chargers got good production from their middles. Kurtis Randmaa had 13 kills on 24 attacks and Elliott Brainerd had nine kills on 18 attempts and three blocks.

Matt Sessler smashed 12 kills on 27 attempts on the outside with Jack Skjervem chipped in 6 kills on 12 attempts. Esteban Zepeda came off the bench and was 4 for 7.

DP will take a 14-11 record into the CIF playoffs. The pairings will be announced May 9.

Hug reflected on his first season as head coach.

“It has been one of the greatest joys of my life to be at the reins of one of the premier high school boys volleyball programs and an honor to coach such amazing young men,” he said. “Being a DP graduate, former player, and to get to coach with all of my former coaches, Larry Vranish, Mike Beresford and my mentor, Chris Hughes, was a dream come true.

“The boys and I are extremely excited for CIF and can’t wait to keep the season rolling.”
