BVB: Carpinteria falls in 4 against Saddleback

In its first CIF playoff match at home, Carpinteria fell in four sets against Saddleback in the Division 2 wild-card round. The set scores were 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16.

Mason Picerni pounded a school-record 22 kills to lead the Warriors (8-8). Luis Ceja had 12 kills and setter Jesus Ortega dished out 37 assists.

Carpinteria coach Marc Denitz started two JV freshman because a scheduling conflict with a couple of varsity players. “They did a fantastic job,” Denitz said of Andrew Hipple and Mayerik Rodriguez.”

Denitz also praised the passing and digging of libero Victor Garcia.

“I was very pleased with the effort we played with tonight,” said Denitz.
