BTen: Cate wins Condor League singles, doubles titles

Cate freshman Kevin Ha and the doubles team Michael Revord and freshman Christian Herman  captured Condor League individual tennis titles and earned CIF spots on Friday.

The league finals consisted of four singles players and four doubles teams from Cate and Laguna Blanca, the top two teams in the league. The individual champions and runners-up advance to CIF.

Ha defeated Tristan Prinz 6-2 and Ben Furukawa 6-2 to claim the singles title. He is the first freshman to accomplish the feat in several years, according to Cate coach Bob Bonning.

Cate’s Jason Xiao lost a 6-3 decision against Prinz but came back and defeated Furukawa, rallying from a 5-2 deficit to win 7-5.

Xiao and Prinz faced off for the league’s No. 2 CIF spot and Xiao won in a super tiebreaker, 10-5.

In doubles,  Revord-Herman won 6-2, 6-1 sets over Laguna’s freshman-sophomore combo of Phillip Hicks and Henry Farrell and Martin Barnick-Jack Espin. Hicks-Farrell defeated Cate’s Brendan Lokre-Johnowen Lowe, 6-1. Lokre-Lowe topped Barnick-Espin, 7-5.

In the tiebreaker for the No. 2 CIF spot, Hicks-Farrell beat Lokre-Lowe, 10-0.
