TRK: Scarvelis breaks Arcadia record, leads country in discus

Stamatia Scarvelis made a splash in her secondary event at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday, as the Dos Pueblos senior broke the meet record in the discus with a throw of 172 feet and seven inches.

The distance is the top throw in the United States and extended Scarvelis’ previous best by 10 feet. It is also a new school record at Dos Pueblos.

In the shot put, the event that she is the two-time CIF State Champion, Scarvelis won with a throw of 52’1″. Last weekend at the Trabuco Hills Invitational, Scarvelis reached 53 feet and 5 1/2 inches.

Other Chargers at Arcadia included pole vaulters Sydney Eilbacher and Tate Cutcliff. Eilbacher cleared 10’9″ and tied for fourth. Cutcliff was stopped at 14 feet, good for 7th.

Cole Smith was 17th in the Men’s Rated 3 race with a time of 9:25. Addi Zerrenner ran in the Women’s Invitational division of the 3200 and came in 25th.

Jon Dickinson was 10th in the men’s open shot put with a throw of 51’5″.
