SBCC’s Teresa Downey dropped her first WSC women’s tennis match on Saturday, losing to Mary Ashmore of Santa Monica 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals of the WSC Tournament at Ventura College.
Downey, the No. 1 seed, had her 10-match win streak snapped. She’s 9-1 in WSC matches and 10-2 on the year. She previously qualified for the State Tournament in both singles and doubles.
Downey and Monica Kunz lost a tough quarterfinal in doubles to Meg Mooradian/Ashley Sumudio of Glendale 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
The State Tournament will take place at the historic Ojai Tournament on April 24-27.
