TEN: Dons tackle Mira Costa 11-7

Santa Barbara High’s boys tennis team knocked off the No. 10 team in Division 1 on Saturday in an 11-7 decision over Mira Costa.

The Dons, ranked No. 6 themselves, were led by Morgan Hale’s three victories in singles and by the freshmen doubles team of Miles Hale and Harry Deboer. The team was balanced as five points came from singles and six from doubles.

“This was a complete team effort today as everybody in our line up won at least one set,” said Dons head coach Greg Tebbe.

The doubles teams of Jordan Rodnick/Ryan Chung and Matthew McClintock/Jake Sutton won crucial matches for the Dons in the second round. While holding a 6-4 lead, Rodnick and Chung won their second-round set 7-5, and McClintock/Sutton won theirs 6-4 to put Santa Barbara ahead 8-4. Another key set for Santa Barbara was Logan Lender’s comeback from 1-4 in the first round. Lender rallied to win 7-6.

The Dons (10-4) travel to Palos Verdes on Tuesday.
