San Marcos collects a pair of wins on the beach

The San Marcos girls sand volleyball team defeated Santa Barbara High and Laguna Blanca 3-0 in dual matches in the AAU Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League at West Beach on Saturday.

San Marcos’ No. 1 team of junior Anika Wilson and freshman Cassidy Drury-Pullen beat the Laguna Blanca pair of Phoebe Madsen and Clara Madsen in two sets and rallied past Santa Barbara’s Cassandra Amador and Jessica Beksa in three (17-21, 21-11, 15-5).

Wilson and Drury-Pullen are 5-1 on the season.

Freshman Isabel Bassi and senior Clare Holehouse of San Marcos improved to 6-0, beating Laguna Blanca’s Madison Nicholson and Hannah White in two games and outlasting Santa Barbara’s Tatum Vedder and Jackie Starns in three.

Freshman Erin Holehouse and Alex Seyle swept their two sets at No. 3 for the Royals.

In Week 4 of IBVL action, San Marcos and Laguna Blanca play on Saturday, April 19, at Dockweiler State Beach.

Santa Barbara returns to West Beach on Saturday and will be joined by Santa Ynez, La Canada, Oaks Christian and Alemany.
