Kiraly’s USA Women’s Volleyball Team to play at SBCC

Karch Kiraly is bringing the USA Women’s Volleyball Team to his old stomping grounds next month.

The Kiraly-coached U.S. team is coming to Santa Barbara to play an intrasquad match and have a meet and greet with local fans at SBCC’s Sports Pavilion on Friday, May 16.

Tickets are $5, with youth 18-and-under admitted free. The day will include a question-and-answer session with Kiraly and an autograph session following the match. The Q&A begins at 4:45 p.m., followed by team warm-ups and the match at 6:30 p.m.

Kiraly started his legendary volleyball career playing at East Beach. After many years playing indoors and on the beach, which includes winning three Olympic gold medals (two indoors and one on the sand), he’s continued in the sport as a coach. He was hired as an assistant for the USA women’s team at the 2012 London Olympics and took over the head coaching position following the Games. He is preparing the team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The USA women are ranked No. 2 in the world behind Brazil.
