Ekola, Evans earn Athlete of the Week awards

Those performances earned Ekola and Evans Athlete of the Week honors at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.

Evans pitched nine innings of shutout ball and struck out 12 in a 2-0 win over Oxnard in the final of the Pac View Tournament. In a 9-0 Channel League victory over Santa Barbara, she struck seven in three innings and hit a pair of doubles. Later in the week, she had two hits in a 15-1 win over the Dons.

Ekola was dominant during the regular season for Bishop Diego. He went 36-0 in singles sets, helping the Cardinals clinch a CIF playoff berth for the second straight year.

The athletes named honorable mention this week are: Matt Hanley (UCSB volleyball), Joshua Tedeschi (Dos Pueblos baseball), Brandon Evans (SBCC baseball), Grant Amerson (Dos Pueblos golf), Jill Fisher (San Marcos track), Erica Schroeder (San Marcos track) and Natasha Feshbach (Santa Barbara High track).
