BTen: Hammond, Ekola pace Bishop past Villanova

Matt Hammond upended Villanova’s No. 1 player and joined Spencer Ekola with an unbeaten record in singles, leading Bishop Diego to a 14-4 win over Villanova in a Frontier League boys tennis match.

Ekola raised his season record to 33-0 and league mark to 21-0. Hammond is 12-6 in league play.

Dylan Pierz/Jose Pacheco and Cameron Krul/Jake Stratford Jones went 3-0 in doubles.

“The team is really coming together,” Bishop Diego coach Debbie Ekola. “Everyone is playing good tennis and team spirit is high. I know the boys are looking forward to another opportunity to play St Bonnie next week.”

Bishop improves to 5-6 and 5-2 in league.
