BTen: Cardinals fall short against St. Bonaventure

Bishop Diego came out on the short end of two close sets and dropped a 10-8 decision to St. Bonaventure in a Frontier League boys tennis match on Tuesday.

Matt Hammond fell 7-5 against St. Bonaventure’s No. 1 singles player Michael Frank and the doubles team of Cameron Krul and Jake Stratford-Jones lost a 7-6 tiebreaker after rallying from a 2-5 deficit.

Spencer Ekola dominated in his three sets, winning them all by 6-0 and improving his season record to 36-0.

The Cardinals (5-7, 5-3 in league) were hurt by injuries to a couple of players.

“I’m very proud of my team’s performance today,” coach Debbie Ekola said. “ They all gave it their best effort down to final match. We lost two very close sets. The match could have gone either way.”
