PHOTO GALLERY INTRO: Carpinteria High’s softball team edged San Marcos 7-6 on Friday in a non-league game as the Warriors scored all seven runs in the second and third innings.
The Royals rallied from 7-1 but came up short with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning.
Natalie Saito earned the victory for the Warriors (2-6).
“We played better defense today behind her so that allows us the opportunity to win the game,” said Warriors head coach Henry Gonzales.
The Royals, on the other hand, made three errors that led to four unearned runs for the Warriors.
Before the game, San Marcos head coach Jeff Swann and the Royals players held a ceremony in honor of the softball facility upgrades that were made in the offseason thanks to contributions from program supporters in the community.

The San Marcos players and coaches entertained a pre-game ceremony honoring the facility upgrades completed in the offseason.
Carpinteria’s starting pitcher Natalie Saito struck out six batters in a complete-game effort. The junior right-hander was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
The Warriors players celebrate the victory, with Scarlett Pettine giving Shelby Adamack a big hug after Adamack caught the final two outs of the game.
San Marcos’ Stephanie Swann races out of the batter’s box on an RBI single in the sixth inning. Swann, San Marcos’ starting pitcher, reached base twice and scored a run on offense.

Teagan Singer was one of five Warriors with two hits, including a second-inning double off the right-center field fence.
Claudia Herrera didn’t start but entered the game and doubled in the sixth inning. Anmai Brook came on to pinch run and scored on a Stephanie Swann single.
