PBB: Dos Pueblos splits with Pioneer Valley

Dos Pueblos’ baseball team came back to defeat St. Joseph 7-4 on Saturday after losing to the Knights 4-1 in the first half of the double-header.

The Chargers scored three runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the seventh to rally in the second game. Consecutive doubles by Daniel Buratto and Nick Noggle got the Chargers going, and a two-out pinch-hit single by Bryant Guzman tied the game at 4-4.

Starting pitcher Travis Craven allowed one earned run in five innings. Kyle Ownsby then came on in the sixth inning and was the pitcher of record during the Chargers’ rally. Both pitchers are sophomores.

“Our youngsters showed some heart today. They got there opportunity and rose to the occasion. It was great to see,” reported Chargers head coach Nick Katzenstein.

Luke Coffey and Dustin Demeter recorded a pair of hits each and scored a run in the second game. Noggle was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Demeter finished the day with three hits – all for extra bases – and pitched two innings in the first game.
