It was a great weekend for local beach volleyball teams in California Beach Volleyball Association Tournaments at Will Rogers State Beach.
Two local beach volleyball doubles teams won tournament titles at Will Rogers State Beach. The team of Lisa Gera, left, and K.C. Collins captured the Women’s AAA, and the combo of Will Harris and Matt Schroeder took the Men’s AA.
Four teams captured tournament titles and one finished as a runner-up.
The team of K.C. Collins and Lisa Gera won the CBVA Women’s AAA to earn their triple-A rating for the rest of the year. In the final, Collins-Gera defeated two players from Europe, Alicia Leszczynska of Poland and Marika Steinhauff of Germany, 28-23.
Collins-Gera went 3-1 in pool play and knocked off Jennifer Henderson-Bianca Peigler and Molly Menard-Laura Anderson in the playoffs.
In the men’s AA at Will Rogers on Saturday, East Beach locals Matt Schroeder and Will Harris took first place to earn their “AAA” rating. They defeated Fabio Calesso and Mason Chevron in the final.
On Sunday, East Beach player Jolene Person and Jennifer Filipko captured the Women’s A. They beat SBCC players Madison Waddell and Ariana Garner in the semifinals and topped Melanie Ghiz and Pema Dorje in the title match.
The Men’s B was an all-local final, too, with SBCC’s Owen Yoshimoto and Jack Shields defeating Brant “B” Lee and Jason Gadbury.
In a Men’s Open at Manhattan Beach Pier, former Santa Barbara High star Will Montgomery took first place with partner Andrei Belov.
