CBB: Vaqueros go hitless, fall to Oxnard, 5-0

SBCC didn’t get a hit on Thursday but the Vaqueros had plenty of chances to score in a 5-0 WSC North baseball loss at Oxnard.

Patrick Weigel, a 6-7 sophomore right-hander, went the first 8 1/3 innings for the Condors, striking out 12 with seven walks and four hit batters. Blake Redman got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth by striking out Jack Gregson and Brandon Evans.

The Vaqueros, ranked No. 3 in Southern Cal, stranded 10 runners. They fell to 16-6 and 5-3 while No. 2 Oxnard improved to 16-4 and 6-2.

Ryan Tinkham homered in the first and Jake Mavropoulos made it 5-0 with a solo shot in the seventh.

Left-hander Tyler Gilbert tossed five innings for Santa Barbara, giving up four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Stephen Magnuson pitched the last three innings, allowing one run on two hits.

The Vaqueros will travel to Woodland Hills to take on L.A. Pierce on Saturday at 1 p.m.
